Parliamentary News
CGCI Parliamentarian, Chuck Goodwin, wants you to know that
the National Association of Parliamentarians provides a wide array of products and services for members
and the general public. An informative group of booklets are
part of the Leadership Spotlight Series, including "You the
President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Committess, Board
of Directors, Conventions and Nominations and Elections."
These are nominal in cost, and Chuck highly recommends these
for purchase by clubs and districts. For a complete listing of
NAP materials, log onto its website.
Chuck also wants to remind you to send your
questions and comments to him for the "Ask the Parliamentarian"
column in Golden Gardens.
Gardening Study Schools -
Online Course Ends
The National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC) Board
of Directors voted at the Pre-Convention Board Meeting in Atlanta to
terminate NGC’s contract with Learn2Grow due to lack of
participation. NGC and Learn2Grow developed Garden Time Course
1 based on NGC’s Gardening Study Schools (GSS) program. As a
result of the board action, Garden Time Course 1 (also known as
Online Course I and Virtual Gardening Study School Course I) is no
longer available. This course had been offered (through the
NGC and Learn2Grow websites) for the past year to the general public
and was also available for student and refresher credit in NGC’s GSS
program.
Please be aware that this course is no longer an
alternative for those seeking GSS credit. Those who did
receive course or refresher credit by taking the online course
retain that credit. The traditional GSS program remains
unchanged and is available throughout the country. Questions
about the GSS program and about the discontinuation of the online
course may be referred to this chairman.
Want to Sponsor a Gardening Study
School?
It's a great way to
educate the public and your garden club members
about a variety of gardening subjects. It's a great way to
obtain a qualified contingent of NGC Gardening
Consultants for your club/district. It's a great way to
attract new garden club members. It's easy to
sponsor a study program: Contact Greg Pokorski via email.
Simple instructions and checklists for the local sponsors/chairmen
of Gardening Study Schools are found in the NGC GSS
Handbook (with all necessary forms) which can be ordered from
NGC for
$10 plus shipping/handling. Greg Pokorski is available to answer any
questions and assist.
Recycle Your Garden
Garden Arts
& Crafts Chairman, Janet
Eyre, wants you to know: When you go out in your garden to
cut-back, thin-out or pinch-back, think twice before you
throw-out. This is where your garden art and craft
starts. Even better, when you plan your garden, plant shrubs,
vines, flowers and trees that are useful to bring into the
house to enjoy in a craft or in an artistic design that you
create. One such project you can make and enjoy is:
"Grapevine" Wreaths or vine of any kind which you grow. Make
your wreath any size that you wish out of any vines that grow for
you -- they all turn out pretty! To start your wreath, you use
vines that are still bendable - not dry. Bend vine around to
desired size circle and twist with floral wire to secure
vine. Continue adding vine to circle to desired thickness
of circle. Secure circle with wire and decorate with dried
flowers, herbs, leaves and ribbon.
